Al Sharq newspaper reported on 23 May 2022, an announcement by WhatsApp that informs of the ceasing of support to multiple older Apple phones.
It was reported that the application will not be supported by certain older versions of the iOS operating system.
As per the article, devices running on iOS versions 10 or 11 need to update their devices to avoid disruption in the WhatsApp application usage which will come into effect by the end of October 2022. iOS 12 will be the minimum requirement for devices to be able to use WhatsApp.
Furthermore, it was mentioned that the following warning was provided by WhatsApp:
“Update to the latest version of iOS to continue using WhatsApp. WhatsApp will stop supporting this version of iOS after October 24, 2022.”
The WhatsApp support page has also seen an update, which states the following: “Currently, we support and recommend the following devices: Android, running 4.1 and up, iPhone, running iOS 12 and later versions.”
