National Sport Day is a Car-free Day

As the State of Qatar celebrates National Sport Day 2022, Qatar Foundation (QF) is inviting visitors to Education City to go car-free.

Through this initiative, QF aims to promote physical activity in line with the public holiday and calls on members of the community to explore alternative forms of transport, while helping to reduce vehicle use and carbon emissions.

QF’s Car-Free Day coincides with this year’s National Sport Day, and QF’s activities are open to all. These include fitness classes and fitness challenges, such as Zumba, boxing, and spinning.

The programs are designed to showcase some of the opportunities for sport and active living that are available at Education City year-round.

The activities are free of charge and require pre-registration via a dedicated website or the Education City app. They will run from 8am until 5pm at Oxygen Park, Green Spine, the Ceremonial Court, and Multaqa (Education City Student Center).

Cars can be parked in the Academy Car Park or Oxygen Park Parking, and from these locations visitors can then rent a scooter – or bring their own – use the Education City Tram, or walk to their destination.

The Education City Tram houses 24 stations, and is electrically powered, using groundbreaking battery-charging technology. It is ability friendly, as it provides dedicated seats for people with disabilities. Additionally, services are free of charge, and no special ticket or pass is required.

Car-free days are transformative disruptions of the business-as-usual approach for all to explore mobility alternatives already available.

There are several options to consider during a car-free day:

o Using the Metro Green Line

o Parking your car in the free designated areas

o Using the Education City Tram

o Walking

o Using your personal bike. Bikes will have to be parked in the designated parking lots

o Renting or bringing your own scooter. To rent a scooter, download the Falcon App.

o Riding the scooter on roads

o Prioritizing the use of the multiple existing pedestrian and bike paths
