FIFA World Cup 2022
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) welcomed the Resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 8 April 2022, supporting the State of Qatar for hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022. The General Assembly adopted unanimously this resolution under the title “The 2022 World Cup organized by FIFA in Qatar”.
PAM noted in a statement published on its website that the Resolution was submitted by the State of Qatar and sponsored by 106 countries, under the item “Sport for Peace and Development; Building a Peaceful and Better World Through Sport and the Olympic Ideal”.
The statement added that PAM joins the UN in urging all Member States to support sport as a means of promoting peace and development, especially through continued contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals and dialogue among civilizations.
In March 2022, PAM had unanimously welcomed the State of Qatar as a full member of the Assembly, following several years of very close and exemplary cooperation.
