Whale shark
As the whale shark gathering season begins in the northern regions of the country from May to October, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has called people in the marine beaches and northern islands to avoid whale shark gathering areas.
The Ministry in its Twitter handle has also asked to report immediately by contacting the call centre on phone number 184 of any observations or monitoring of them and not to shed light on them and prevent any source of disturbing sounds near them.
Qatar hosts the biggest concentrations of whale sharks in the world, reaching 600 sharks in 2020, and more than 100 sharks were observed in Al Shaheen field.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change confirms the importance of the public’s participation in the success of the whale shark gathering season to preserve Qatar’s environment and to ensure its biodiversity. The Ministry is responsible for visits to the whale shark gathering areas and for enquiries people can contact the Public Relations Department at the ministry.
