Qatar Foundation (QF) launched the Education City Tram in 2019. This electrically-powered tram system is a sustainable form of travel and carries passengers around QF’s ‘Academic Loop’ and beyond like the Oxygen Park, Green Spine and more.

The Education City Tram covers a total of 3 lines:
Line 1: YellowLine 2: Blue (Academic Loop)Line 3: Green
At present the Yellow and Blue lines are operational. The tram enables car-less, park-and-ride connections between Qatar Foundation’s schools, universities, centres, and other facilities. The stations are as follows:

Note: Children who are not 12 years of age need to be accompanied by an adult when riding the tram.
Education City Tram things to know

Passengers must show ‘Green’ EHTERAZ status to the security onboard after entering the tram.The trams have wheelchair access and pushchair, carrycot, or folding bicycles must be attached with a safety belt during the journey.Pets are allowed on the tram. Small animals must be kept inside a suitable closed transportation container or cage. Guide or Hearing Dogs accompanying blind or deaf passengers are allowed inside the trams. The dog must travel on the floor of the tram and not on any seat.
Education City Tram facts
The Education City Tram is driven by drivers and is not driverless.Each air-conditioned tram has 64 seats, including seats for people with disabilities.Trams reduce CO2 emissions by 30% as opposed to using cars.EC Tram travels at a maximum speed of 40km/hr but it may vary as required.Once fully opened, the tram’s 11.5 km route will provide a rail link within and between Education City’s North and South campuses, including via a tunnel under Al Luqta Street.The 19 state-of-the-art Avenio trams have an onboard energy-storing system that removes the need for overhead power cables and can travel from one stop to the next without a need for charging.
Car-Free Day
The Car-Free Day at Qatar Foundation (QF) reflects its commitment to building awareness of the importance of sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. This is a great chance for you to participate and do something green. A great idea would be to ditch the car and take the EC Tram to go around while visiting!
