A report by Al Jazeera has announced that “Israeli forces have shot dead Al Jazeera’s journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian health ministry.”
“She was hit by a live bullet on Wednesday while covering Israeli raids in the city of Jenin and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, according to the ministry and Al Jazeera journalists. Abu Akleh was wearing a press vest when she was killed.”
As per the report, the ministry also said that she was declared dead at the hospital. “Shatha Hanaysha, a Palestinian journalist who was standing next to Abu Akleh when she was shot, told Al Jazeera that there had been no confrontations between Palestinian fighters and the Israeli army, and said that the group of journalists had been targeted”, the report mentioned.
According to Al Jazeera, Shireen Abu Akleh was a veteran journalist who began working for Al Jazeera in 1997. In a statement, Al Jazeera Media Network condemned the “blatant murder” of Shireen Abu Akleh that violates “international laws and norms.”

A statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Qatar said, “The State of Qatar condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli occupation forces’ assassination of Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Palestine Shireen Abu Akleh near Jenin refugee camp and the injuring of the Al Jazeera producer journalist Ali Al-Samudi, and considers them a heinous crime and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and a blatant infringement on freedom of media and expression and the right of peoples to access information.”
