In an Instagram post, the Qatar Cycling Federation has released a statement of the passing of a fellow cyclist during a cycling activity (North to South of Qatar group ride) in celebration of Qatar National Sports Day on 8 February 2022.

As per the statement, Pradeep Kunwar, a Nepali expatriate, was hit by a vehicle and was pronounced dead before the ambulance arrived.

It saddens us to announce that we lost another cyclist while riding his bicycle.

Pradeep Kunwar (a Nepal national) together with his fellow cyclists were doing a North to South of Qatar group ride in celebration of Sports Day. Unfortunately, even though there is a support car securing them from behind, a vehicle driven by a reckless driver cut them off and knocked down Pradeep. He was announced dead when the ambulance arrived.

In this sorrowful time, we would like to extend our most sincere condolence to the bereaved family, and may Pradeep rest in peace. Let us offer a few moments of silence to our lost brother in sport.

In an Instagram story, a fellow cyclist Yehya Alawah (@elq6ri) said Pradeep Kunwar was also celebrating his birthday when the grim event happened. Yehya told ILoveQatar.net that they wanted to continue to celebrate Pradeep’s birthday at the finish line.

In a tragic accident yesterday, we lost one of our cyclists on his birthday during our cycling journey from north to south of Qatar, few moments before the finish line due to the recklessness of one of the drivers…Rest in peace Pradeep & happy birthday in a better place.
